“We think like a rodent and understand what a rodent likes. We’ve researched different flavours, different textures; wheat bait, gel bait, block bait, with different shapes to encourage gnawing. Different bait boxes to provide the ideal feeding environment. It’s all about out-thinking rodents, and our competitors.”

Fortec in Action

Controlled trials show the first commercial bait to incorporate foraging grain technology – Neosorexa Gold – is consumed far more readily than the market-leading difenacoum cut wheat bait, Neosorexa on which it is based.

Fig 1. Indeed, its Palatability Ratio – the key industry measure of field acceptability – is 287% and 184% greater than the Neosorexa standard with rats and mice respectively.

Fig 2. At the same time, the bait has been found to give the same 100% mortality in both rats and mice as Neosorexa, with the lethal dose at which 50% are killed (LD50) of 9g for rats and less than half a gram (0.4 g) for mice.

The greater appeal of the Fortec bait led 60% of laboratory rats to consume a lethal dose of difenacoum on the first day of its availability and 100% on the second day compared to 0% and 80% with the standard bait.

Fig 3. As well as showing a more rapid increase in feeding activity, these trials also demonstrate a faster decline in bait takes as rats become ill and die.

This confirms that the greater appeal of Neosorexa Gold doesn’t necessarily translate into higher overall consumption of either the bait or the rodenticide.

All the evidence shows that Neosorexa Gold with Fortec allows faster, more complete and more reliable rodent control by:

  • Increasing the appeal of the bait to rats and mice;
  • Encouraging rats and mice to consume more bait sooner;
  • Making the bait more arresting in the presence of other foods; and,
  • Increasing the speed with which a lethal dose of rodenticide is consumed

In addition to reducing the extent of damage and contamination caused by infestations, faster control reduces the period over which baiting has to continue and therefore the risk to other wildlife.

As with all rodenticides, it is vital to maintain the same best practice in its use to safeguard other wildlife.
