“We think like a rodent and understand what a rodent likes. We’ve researched different flavours, different textures; wheat bait, gel bait, block bait, with different shapes to encourage gnawing. Different bait boxes to provide the ideal feeding environment. It’s all about out-thinking rodents, and our competitors.”
Extended Control Periods
Under these circumstances, it isn’t surprising some rat baits have to be applied and maintained in situ for more than five weeks to achieve effective control these days.
Quite apart from extending the period over which the unit suffers from rodent damage and contamination, having to bait over a longer period increases the potential danger to pets and other non target animals.
Extended, less intensive control programmes may also increase the chances of insufficient bait being available each day to ensure the
whole population consumes a lethal dose of rodenticide.
A particular danger where regular inspection and topping-up of baiting points is less rigorous than it should be, this will increase any selection pressures for physiological as well as behavioural resistance.
