Basic Requirements
Basic Behaviour
Cockroaches exhibit four basic behaviours – survival, reproduction, movement and feeding. Feeding is central to the other three. Without it there can be no survival, reproduction, movement and feeding. Feeding is central to the other three. Without it there can be no survival, no movement and no reproduction.
This means insecticide baits represent the best way of exploiting cockroach behaviour to achieve population control.
Basic Needs
Although very effective at adapting to different conditions, cockroaches need four key elements to survive - food, water, warmth and shelter.
While German cockroaches require higher temperatures and live almost exclusively indoors, Oriental cockroaches are equally at home outside.
This means infestations are invariably larger where sanitation is poor and can be restricted by reducing the availability of any of the four key elements.
