Roosting

Communal birds like pigeons, gulls and starlings habitually occupy favoured overnight roosts. Very large numbers of birds can congregate to roost in one place.

These roosts tend to be in more sheltered and secure locations, and can be as important to birds as nesting sites. Due to the considerable accumulation of droppings these sites can also be a significant health hazard and nuisance to people.

This means that roosting sites that support large numbers of birds can be as vital and challenging to proof as nesting locations.
