It sets out a planned approach to sustainable bird management designed to overcome the serious nuisance, health and safety, and building and environmental maintenance headaches posed by a variety of urban birds.

Promoting the most sustainable and cost-effective bird proofing solutions, it provides a best practice recipe for bird management based on a thorough understanding of natural behaviour gained from extensive research and global experience.

Our primary attention is focussed on the perennial problem of pigeons and the growing challenge of urban gulls. Where behaviour and control differ significantly, we also provide specific guidance on managing starling and house sparrow populations which can cause problems in particular circumstances.

We have no doubt that well-designed bird proofing which exploits the natural behaviour of problem populations as fully as possible is the most effective and economic way of reducing the damage, danger and nuisance they so often cause in built-up areas.

Equally, extensive practical experience shows that proofing that is inappropriate for the particular bird challenge or poorly manufactured, installed or maintained is all too often more trouble than it’s worth for installers and users alike.
