BEHAVIOUR-LED RODENT TECHNOLOGY PROVES A WINNER IN PORTSMOUTH
Adopting the latest behaviour-led rodent control approach has allowed an award-winning Portsmouth business to substantially improve both the efficiency of its service and the confidence of its customers.
Last winter Contract Killers Pest Control, which took second place out of fully 600 nominations in the city council's 2006/7 Business Awards, put a revolutionary new poisoned bait specifically designed to make the most of natural rat and mouse behaviour to the test alongside its established control practice. So successful did it prove that the company has switched almost entirely to the approach this year.
"We ran a simple comparison in the lofts of a rat-infested domestic terrace and it clearly showed us the new bait, Neosorexa Gold Pro was taken up faster and more completely than our traditional stalwart," explains principal, Lee Marshfield.
"It has saved us a week on our typical four-week rat and mouse control regimes. In the past, we used to see a noticeable reduction in rodent levels by our third weekly visit, with full control by the fourth week. Now, though, we see the same reduction after just two weeks and full control generally by the third visit."
Not surprisingly, this is proving a big hit with Contract Killers' customers. They are especially impressed with the speed with which the team now gets on top of infestations. And the fact that busy home owners and tenants only have to arrange to be there to let them in three weeks in a row rather than four is much appreciated.
"Although we always leave an information sheet explaining that their natural fear of new things means rats may not take much bait for several days, many people simple can't resist checking the trays soon after our first visit," notes Lee Marshfield. "So we've got used to receiving calls within two or three days asking us why the bait hasn't been eaten.
"We still get called these days, only now it's almost invariably to tell us the bait has already gone!
"The new rodenticide technology is proving invaluable," he stresses. "It really enhances the professional service we pride ourselves in delivering and for which we've developed such a good reputation across the city. The majority of our customers don't appreciate the finer points of rodent behaviour. They just want to get rid of their rat and mouse problems yesterday."
